London-based Nadja Solovieva is the founder of the brand Vassilisa that focuses on luxurious scarves. She studied fashion design in St. Martin’s College of Art and trained with Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and a number of other leading British brands prior to launching her own label.

Q: What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?
着るものを選ぶときに陥る大きな失敗はなんですか？
A. I would imagine wearing something very harsh and synthetic is not a pleasant idea; however, it may be fun for some.
何かを厳密にいかにもちゃんと着るのを想像してみて。全然楽しくないでしょ。 でも、一方で、とっても楽しいことのはずで。。
Q: Do you believe in role models?
ロールモデルの存在を信じますか？
A. I think role models are good, if only youths would pin them to the wall: Jesus Christ, Mother Teresa, Indira Gandhi, etc. Huge respect.
ロールモデルっていうのはあるといいと思います。若いひとなら、壁にピンで張るとかね。 キリストとかマザーテレサとかガンジーとかはすごく尊敬していますが。
Q: What are your favorite fabrics?
どんな素材が一番すきですか？
A. I like softness and breathable fabrics. I mostly stick with natural silk, silk-cotton mix; we also have a cashmere and modal ultra-soft blend (that’s made from tree cellulose).
柔らかく通気性のある素材がすきです。 おもに、ナチュラルシルクやシルク ＆コットンの混毛などは作品の中でも長く続けています。 それから、カシミアとモダール（これは木の繊維から作られています）のウルトラソフト素材とかね
Q: Are there any style combinations that you object to?
何か苦手な組み合わせはありますか？
Can’t think of any. 何も思いつきません。
Q: Which city has the best-dressed women?
一番素敵な装いの女性がいると思うのは、どの街ですか？
A.I think it is rather a socio-demographic than geographic aspect that matters these days. Sometimes I see an immaculate Parisian, next time a mesmerizing Italian lady, and they are often not in the cities you would historically expect them to be in.
昨今は、地理的な問題というより社会的ターゲット層の問題だと思います。 時には一分のすきもないパリジャンヌだったり、次の瞬間、 魅惑的なイタリアンレイディーだったり、、、、 大体そういう人たちというのは、我々が歴史的にそうであろうと思い込んでる街にいなかったりします。
Q: Would you say that you are conservative or bold?
あなたは、コンサバだと思いますが、それとも大胆？？
A.I guess my personal dressing pattern is conservative with a touch of boldness.
私の自分らしい装いパターンは、大胆な要素を取り入れたコンサバな感じですね。
Q: What are the rules in the way you dress?
洋服の着方のルールはなんですか？Celebrities and style…セレブやスタイルは？
A. I do not have any particular rules, but there are shapes, which suit my body proportions better, and colours, which highlight my tones. Are interlinked aspects of modern culture.
特別なルールはありません。 でも、できるだけ身体をきれいに見せる型であったり、 自分の色を強調する色だったり、、、現代文化と密接に関連していますね。
Q: Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?
買っても買っても買い足りない洋服やアクセサリーは？
A. My studio is filled with scarves and shawls, of course.
私のスタジオは、もちろんスカーフやショールであふれていますよ。もちろん 笑。。。
Q: A woman should always look like…
女性は常にどう見えるべき？
I think there is nothing she should.
どうあるべきなどは何もないと思う。
Q: Who taught you what you know about style?
誰からセンスを学んだ？
My mother was a hidden gem of imagination and design, behind that “iron curtain” in Soviet Union, where I was born.
私の母は、想像やデザインにおいて、私の祖国ロシアの「鉄のカーテン」の 背後に隠れた逸材でした。
Q: How do you select your clothing every morning?
毎朝どのようにその日の着る服を選んでいますか？
A. Recently, I tend to be short on time. I hang things in an easy to combine order in my wardrobe in advance, which makes it easy to pick in the morning.

A. I am into design personally; stylists are special people to advise on style and styling. 私は、デザインの人だから、、、、スタイルやスタイリングについての専門家はスタイリストだと。。。。
Q: Do you have any shopping rituals?
何かショッピングについてのこだわりはありますか？
A. I have fun popping into Harvey Nichols, sometime even hold a meeting lunch there upstairs, or browse things online on Avenue 32.
Harvey Nicholsにフラっと入るのも楽しいし、たまに上の階でランチミーティングしたりね。 あとAvenue32のオンライン版を見たり。
However, I am not too much into shopping.
でも、そんなにショッピングに必死になることはないです。

Never say never! A cheap scarf.
絶対ないとは言わない！ みすぼらしいスカーフ！
Q: Which new designers do you follow and why?
どんな新人デザイナーをフォローしますか、で、それはなぜ？
A. Interestingly, I try not to follow fashion as such; we aim to design things, which withstand seasonality and trend, for longevity. I was in college with many new talents: Mark Fast（http://www.markfast.net/）, David Koma（http://davidkoma.com/）, Francesca Versace（http://fashion.telegraph.co.uk/news-features/TMG6167168/World-of-Francesca-Versace-fashion-designer.html） is starting a new project. I have just done a cooperation with Bionda Castana shoes, and share studio with Ahilya. We are all friendly. Recently, I find it interesting to observe designers who have right business support to succeed, in addition to talent.

Q: Who is the most stylish person you have ever seen?

A.Sometimes I see them and I do not know their names. My friend stylist Zoe Bedeaux is one example.

Q: What is the first thing you notice on a woman?
女性を見たとき、一番初めに気づくことは何ですか？
A.I notice their eyes, skin, and hair. If they wear a scarf or something with a print pattern — that is definitely what I notice first.
瞳に目がいきます。そして肌、髪。 プリントか何かのスカーフをつけていたときは、もちろん一番はじめにスカーフに目が行きます！
Q: What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?
あなたのワードロープの中で一番の宝物は何ですか？
A.One of the coats my mother designed when I was seventeen. I still wear it and people try to guess which recent fashion house collection it is from.
私が17歳の時に、母がデザインしたコート類です。それを着てると、今でも、人に、どこのファッションメゾンの最新コレクションものかと当てられようとします。
Q: The one image that defined your approach to style…

A. I research so many historic and art images for the theme of each new collection. I see things in a context, and there is never just one image.

Q: Which fashion house never fails to impress you?
いつも感銘をうけるファッションメゾンとは？
A. Those luxury houses are such super masters in terms of manufacturing, talent in the teams, business development. Yves Saint Laurent, Prada, Luis Vuitton.
イブサンローランやプラダ、ルイヴィトンなどのラグジュアリーメゾンは、製造、組織としての商才、ビジネス展開においての大先生です。

A.I am into comfort and well-being.
私は快適なのは好きですよ。健康的で安心できる

A. All the mentioned above, and my mom, but she would never do any interviews.

Q: The best words of advice you have ever heard?
これまでに受けたアドバイスの中で一番の言葉は？
A.Remember raising spiritual vibrations. 「スピリチュアルバイブレーション（精神の震え）の高まりを呼びさませ！！」
